SafeLumber is borate pressure treated wood produced by Babb Lumber Company in Ringgold, Georgia and distributed throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Products produced are southern yellow pine lumber, spruce studs and lumber, and plywood.

 

SafeLumber is approved for all indoor applications and for exterior applications where under roof and/or protected by paint or other protective coatings. SafeLumber is non-toxic for humans and pets while protecting the home from decay, mold, insect damage, and insect infestation. SafeLumber is also a Class B fire retardant that will slow the spread of fire and smoke giving additional time for occupants to reach safety and for the fire department to arrive and limit damage. SafeLumber is non-corrosive and does not require special fasteners or protection from contact with metals. 

 

SafeLumber is warranted against structural damage by insects or decay and carries a limited warranty against loss of life by fire. See Spec & Tech for details.

 

Borate treated yellow pine lumber is produced by a number of manufacturers, including SafeLumber. However, SafeLumber uses a proprietary high pressure steam autoclave process to press the borate solution into spruce and a steam/vacuum process to partially re-dry the spruce after treatment. In addition to borates, SafeLumber includes a mold inhibitor and a blue surface tint for identification.

 

There are lumber treatments available in the market which are applied only to the surface of the lumber. The SafeLumber pressure process drives the borates throughout the wood and is not compromised by cutting, surface damage, or nailing.
