SafeLumber - Specs & TechSafeLumber is treated with a borate solution to a retention of at minimum .28 pounds per cubic foot of B2O3 in keeping with American Wood-Preservers Association (AWPA) standards. SafeLumber production is third party inspected by Timber Products Inspection Agency to assure that specifications are met. The treating solution also contains a mold inhibitor and a blue stain. The borates and mold inhibitor will penetrate the wood under pressure and the blue stain will adhere to the wood surface. The actual treating solution is clear, the blue stain is added for identification. Yellow pine products are treated using a standard pressure treatment process. Spruce products are treated using a proprietary high pressure steam process so as to insure penetration and to provide a partially dried after treatment product. The steam process is necessary to produce quality spruce studs. The borate treating chemical is provided by Arch Chemicals, see Sillbor for details and building code references.
